Backfill orphaned customers from old bookings
Turn bookings that only have a name and email into proper linked customer profiles, in one click. · Updated 30/07/2026
Bookings taken before you had customer accounts set up (or created by a walk-in with just a name and email) can end up orphaned — not linked to a customer profile, so their history doesn't roll up anywhere.
What backfill does
- Go to App › Customers and click Backfill orphaned customers.
- The system scans your bookings for ones with an email but no linked customer, groups them by email, and creates a customer profile for each new email found (reusing an existing profile if one already matches).
- Every matching booking is then linked to the right customer, so their booking history, spend and visit counts become accurate.
When to run it
- After importing historic bookings from another system.
- If you've noticed customer totals or "total appointments" look lower than expected.
- Periodically as a tidy-up — it's safe to run any time; it only links, it never deletes or merges data incorrectly.
This is a one-click, non-destructive operation — booking details themselves are never changed, only the link to a customer profile.
