How ID verification works for customers
What a customer sees when booking an age-restricted service, and how the automated Stripe Identity check works. · Updated 30/07/2026
Some services — tattoos, piercings, tanning and certain treatments — legally require proof you're old enough before you can book.
If the shop uses manual checks
- You'll be asked to bring valid photo ID (passport, driving licence) to your appointment, or the shop may ask you to show ID at the counter or over a video call before confirming your booking.
If the shop offers automated checks
- At checkout you'll be prompted to complete a quick ID check powered by Stripe Identity.
- You'll pay a small one-off fee shown clearly before you confirm.
- You take a photo of your ID and a selfie; the check usually completes within a couple of minutes.
- Once verified, you're free to book straight away — no waiting for a callback.
If the shop offers a choice
- You can pick whichever suits you: pay the small fee for an instant automated check, or wait and verify in person when you arrive.
Your ID photos are processed securely by Stripe and are not stored by the shop directly.
