Your own news page — plus redirects so moving website never loses your Google ranking

Two of the most common questions we get from businesses moving their website to us are: can I keep my blog? and what happens to my old page addresses?

From today the answer to both is yes, and it takes a couple of clicks.

A news page of your own

Under Website → News posts you can switch on a news page for your site, then write as many posts as you like — offers, seasonal advice, new team members, price updates, anything worth telling people about.

• Write in plain text with headings and bullets, add photos, and save as a draft until you're happy
• Each post gets its own web address, its own preview when shared, and its own search-engine title and description
• Pick a featured post to sit at the top, and tag posts so visitors can filter them
• A News link appears in your website menu automatically, and there's a news block you can drop onto your home page
• Everything you write lives in your account only — no other business can see it

Bring your old posts with you

On the Import your existing website page there's now a Find my posts button. We read your current site's news feed (or its blog page if it hasn't got one), pull the titles, dates, wording and photos across, and save them here as drafts for you to check.

Old addresses keep working

This is the part that protects your Google ranking. Under Website → Redirects you can tell us that an old address should now point somewhere new — one at a time, or by pasting a whole list.

• Choose an exact address or a whole folder of them
• We send a proper permanent redirect, which is what tells Google the page has moved rather than disappeared
• When someone lands on an address that doesn't exist any more, it's logged under Missing addresses so you can point it somewhere useful in one click
• Importing your old blog posts sets the redirects up for you automatically

Getting started

1. Open Website → News posts and turn your news page on
2. Write your first post, or import your old ones from Website → Import
3. Check Website → Redirects for anything visitors are still trying to reach
